Documentary | Shifting Normal

Provocative Nation is an on going project to explore America’s progress toward sustainable lifestyle choices. When Mauro Clerici and Tonianne Fleig began to incorporate more environmental responsibility into their daily routine, they discovered it wasn’t as simple as buying a different light bulb. They began to question what sustainability really meant and how much of a role it should play in modern life.
In September of 2009, Mauro and Tonianne traveled 11,000 miles over 56 days to find Americans who had found more committed ways of living sustainably. To test their own commitment, they drove a hybrid car, traveled with their own reusable provisions, and slept on the couches of friends and hospitable strangers. They spoke with people involved in urban planning, politics, the arts, farming, the food industry architecture, alternative energy, and recycling. “We saw so much creative potential in what these Americans were doing not only to advance our society but also to educate people along the way.”
