English photographer Jasper James has created an interesting amalgamation between the capital city of China, Beijing and its citizens. He’s combined the silhouette of the citizen with the cityscape. James manages to capture both subjects beautifully, you can easily see the portrayal of a range of human emotions from love, peace, stress to trapped.
US photographer Mitch Epstein has won the 2011 Prix Pictet photography award with his series entitled “American Power.”
Gavin coal power plant, Cheshire, Ohio 2003. Epstein says: ‘In 2003, I was asked to photograph the erasure of a small town in Ohio. In Cheshire, houses were being razed by the hour and streets were nearly emptied of human life. American Electric Power, one of the world’s largest utility companies, had bought out the town and issued a gagging order to silence its residents, after increasing complaints that AEP’s plant had contaminated the health of Cheshire’s citizens. I was not the same after this trip. The cost of growth, with its implicit energy demands, had become terrifyingly vivid’.
Adde Adesokan takes sweet street style photographs that break down pedestrians’ individual ensembles. The image begins with an up-close view of the person’s face, capturing any fashion statements that they may be wearing on their face or head. The following section reveals any item that they may be holding, or simply the mid section of their outfits. The last frame of the image captures the footwear that completes their get up.
Raised in Detroit and Chicago Mark Laita studied Photography at the University of Illinois and the Columbia College in Chicago. Already at the age of 15 he explored his passion for this handcraft. In the meantime Mark Laita counts as a successful and established photographer who runs studios in Los Angeles and New York.
